Less Portal. More Care.
A Simpler Patient Portal for Faster Access to Care
My Role
Using AI-assisted research and rapid design workflows to create a clear, functional prototype for a simplified patient portal—making it easier for patients to schedule appointments with their doctors.
Problem
Patients already feeling unwell struggle to book appointments through the MyHealthOnline portal. Research found the experience overly complicated, and analytics confirm the drop-off: only 67% of bookings are completed.
How might we simplify booking so patients can get the care they need quickly and confidently?
Discovery
I explored three distinctly different approaches to improving the portal — a prioritized task dashboard, a guided conversational experience, and a chronological care journey — each aimed at reducing cognitive load and helping patients understand what needs attention, what their health information means, and what to do next.

AI-Assisted Workflow
I used an end-to-end AI-assisted workflow to shape the design strategy, accelerate iteration, and prototype a frictionless doctor appointment experience for patients.
Things I Did:
- After thoroughly researching the industry, key personas, and their pain points, I used an AI-assisted, context-engineered workflow to accelerate the design process from discovery to a working appointment-booking prototype.
- Drawing on my research and an AI-assisted design-strategy brief, I combined the Next Best Action, Care Journey, and Guided Concierge concepts into a cleaner, more efficient dashboard that removes unnecessary content and prioritizes patients’ needs based on their key friction points and jobs to be done.
- For the MVP, I focused on a simple, intuitive appointment-booking flow designed to feel effortless — even when patients aren’t feeling their best.
